Our tours

On this page you have a list of the tours you can book with us. We are a small tour operator and we do not have a webstore for now. You can book and confirm your tour via Whatsapp +358 40 541 7774 or message us in Instagram @backcountrylapland 


Our tours described here can be booked mostly any day, any time, and most of them are 120€ per person.


First person booking the tour will set the date and the time, and then the same tour could be sold to others as well. Each tour is minimum 2 people, and maximum 8 people. If you want to book the tour privately, that is also possible when you book for a minimum 4 people, or pay for a minimum four people.


If you want us to plan and book tours for your whole holiday, that is also possible. We have a lot of experience designing a perfect set of activities for different type of needs. We cooperate with travel agencies and we have also sold 3 days to 7 days activity packages.

Snowshoe 

  • 2 - 3 hours
  • Pick-up included from Pyhä or Kemijärvi (other locations from a request)
  • English, French, German, Spanish or Finnish guiding
  • Snacks and hot drinks included
  • Snowshoes included
  • From a requets can also be included: extra clothing, outdoor shoes suitable for the snowshoes, tripod for photography, powerbanks for recharching mobile phones, flashlights
  • Aurora snowshoe activity is organised so that the guide is always picking up the location for the snowshoeing based on the probability to see auroras.

Forest Skiing

Forest skiing is with OAC sliding snowshoes (Altai skiing). It is the best way to discover the untouched forests. Suitable for beginners and also for those who are experienced in skiing.

  • Pick up from Pyhä or Kemijärvi included (other locations from a request)
  • OAC ski rental included
  • From a request also possible to borrow extra clothes and winter shoes
  • Can be organised in the evening for aurora watching activity!

Ice-Fishing

Ice-fishing tour on the famous Kemijoki - the longest and biggest river in Finland.

  • 2 - 3 hours tour
  • 120€ /person
  • Pick-up possible from Pyhä and Kemijärvi
  • You'll learn basics on ice-fishing and if and when you will catch a fish, you can also keep it for eating! 

Hike and 
wilderness skills

This tour will teach you the basics of wilderness skills such as fire making, or if you are already familiar with fire making, you will learn how to make a fire with no gear while in the Finnish nature. You will also learn about things that can be eaten in the nature and you will make your own tea of the things picked while the tour.

Cross-country
Skiing

  • 2 - 3 hours tour
  • 120€ /person
  • Traditional cross-country skiing on an established ski tracks
  • Ski rental included, poles and shoes included
  • From a request also included extra winter clothing
  • Warm drinks and snacks included

Gear rental

You can rent our gear from our warehouse in Tapionniemi (20 minutes drive from Pyhä or Kemijärvi) or we can bring your gear to your destination from an extra payment.


  • Cross-country skiing set (skies, poles, shoes) 30€/day
  • Sliding snowshoes (OAC Forest skis/altai) 30€/day
  • Winter clothing set, warm clothes+shoes 30€/day
  • Warm shoes (Sorel or similar) 15€ first day, +10€ extra days
  •  Snowshoes 40€ / 2-7 days
  •  Packrafts (in the summer only)
